THE MEDIA REPORTED THE INCREASE IN THE EU PRICES FOR MODERNA AND PFIZER VACCINES
Pharmaceutical Giants Pfizer and Moderna Raise Prices for COVID Vaccine for EU
US pharmaceutical giants Pfizer and Moderna are raising prices for their coronavirus vaccines for EU countries. The Financial Times (FT) report it with reference to supply contracts.
According to the publication, Pfizer has raised the price of its drug by over 25%: now one dose of the vaccine costs 19.50 euros against 15.5 euros earlier.
As for Moderna, the manufacturer has increased the cost by over 10%: in the latest contracts for the supply to the European Union, the price of a dose of the vaccine is $ 25.50. In the first purchase deal - according to newspaper sources - one dose cost about $ 22.60.
The deal was renegotiated after data from Phase 3 trials proved that mRNA-based Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were superior to cheaper vaccines developed by AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.
The publication notes that the companies expect to receive "tens of billions of dollars" in profit in 2021, as the buying countries seek to secure supplies in the spread's face of the more infectious delta strain.
